Ponsonby Fillies leading the way at National 7's

Although the Wellington 7's are around the corner, it was the recent Bailey's National 7's on the Club's radar; especially with six Fillies including the captain, Charlotte Scanlan representing Auckland.

The team made their way down to Rotorua on the Friday afternoon in preparation for two action packed days. With three games being played on both the Saturday and Sunday, the girls were expecting a tough tournament. Day one saw two wins (Hawkes Bay and Wellington) and a narrow loss to BOP.

The girls recovered well and started day two with a beautiful performance against Canterbury in the quarterfinals. Facing defending champions Manawatu in the semi was always going to be a rugged game and unfortunately Manawatu capitalised on a sin bin, taking the win.

Auckland faced Waikato for 3rd and 4th and came away with the win after scoring early and holding the lead to finish 3rd.

Scanlan was extremely proud of Shannon Leota who put out stellar performances on debut. She hopes to see more of the girls in the squad next year!
