Ponsonby Fillies selected for Black Ferns 2016 Northern Tour
The Ponsonby Fillies are proud to have 4 players selected for the Black Ferns 2016 Northern Tour series.
Eloise Blackwell, captain of the Fillies, and now a senior Black Fern with 21 international caps, leads the way again at Lock. Aleisha-Pearl Nelson, 17 caps, played her way back into Auckland Storm and regained selection for New Zealand following surgery on her wrist earlier this year; she is one of the countries most promising young props. Charmaine McMenamin, 5 caps, returns as a loose forward and also holds honours this year as the only Fillie dual international, representing New Zealand in both Rugby League and Rugby Union. Charmaine's achievements in 2016 also include Auckland 9's, Kiwi Ferns, Black Ferns, and Auckland Storm Player of the Year. Aldora Itunu, 5 caps, heads into her second year as an international rep at prop; she is one of the countries strongest running forwards. Aldora has worked hard to make the touring squad and has the honour of being another Ponsonby family sibling combo to represent NZ alongside her sister Linda Itunu.
The Black Ferns Northern Tour kicks off on Saturday 19 November against current Would Cup Champions England, followed by Canada on Wednesday 23 November, and Ireland on Sunday 27 November. The 2016 Northern Tour is an opportunity to build towards the Woman's World Cup in August next year (in Ireland). We wish them all the best for the tour!

Fillies make the final at Auckland Club 7's
The Ponsonby Fillies entered the recent Auckland Club 7's tournament for their first hit out of the 7's season. With many of the representative players unavailable along with several regulars, this event was the first for a bright crop of new players to the club.
Tess Gardner, a Kiwi recently returning from playing in the UK, captained the squad which featured only one regular 15's player in Raeleen Desmond, and a mix of young Fillies coming out of the local high school ranks, and two Japanese exchange players in for the season who have been electric.
The woman opened pool play with a win against Papatoetoe 26-10, then went on to beat University 22-5, and rounded out pool play with a tough fought win over Marist 19-17. The semi final saw a match up with old rivals College Rifles. Rifles took a 10 point lead into the half, but the Fillies came back and took the match 14-10 to set themselves up for a place in the final.
The final match was played against the Marist U20's (which were essentially the Auckland U19 side getting in prep for their upcoming events). With limited subs for the day, fatigue took its toll in the final against a well drilled side. Fillies took 2nd place but there was no shortage of effort from all the players over the day and some good experience was given for our younger players.
The woman were undersized against all but their final opponents but played some nice 7's, scored some nice tries, defended with everything, and put in 110% effort to make the Club proud. It was a good start to the season. Special thanks to the Club for the base camp, trainers on hand, bbq, and positive support.
