This Saturday afternoon marks ‘Old Boys’ day at Ponsonby’s Western Springs clubrooms, and appropriately the Premiers host Marist in the main game, the two sides steeped in history.
In 2020 both Ponsonby and Marist have recorded six wins and a solitary loss from their seven appearances, and they sit equal on 28 points on the competition table. It is Ponsonby’s slightly superior points differential that sees them one spot above Marist on the ladder.
Marist had won their first six matches on the trot but were undone by a clinical University side last week, whilst Ponsonby start this match having posted 90 points over lowly placed East Tamaki.
Ponsonby will be aware of the physical forward pack that Marist will bring to Western Springs, with last year’s Gallaher Shield final in the forefront of their minds.
The team for the Marist match has a solid look to it, with plenty of experience and support from the bench. McCarthy Cocker-Filikitonga is likely to take the field from the bench in what will be his 40th and Blazer appearance for the Premier side.
The match kicks off on the main field at Western Springs Stadium at 2.45pm, preceded by the two Premier Development sides at 1.00pm.
