OUR CONSTITUTION

The Constitution is Ponsonby Rugby Club's principal governing document. It defines who we are, our purpose and values, how membership operates, and how decisions are made on behalf of the Club.

Following consultation with members and review by Auckland Rugby Union and legam advisers, the Club's updated Constitution was formally adopted by members at the Club's Annual General Meeting on 24th November 2025.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​



WHY THE CONSTITUTION WAS UPDATED

The Constitution was updates in response to the Incorporated Societies Act 2022, which introduced new legal and governance requirements for incorporated societies throughout New Zealand.

The review also provided an important opportunity to modernise the Club's governance framework. While preserving Ponsonby Rugby's proud history, traditions and identity, the updated Constitution provides greater clarity aroiund:

  • The Club's purpose and objectives.

  • Membership rights and responsibilities.

  • Governance and Committee responsibilities.​​​​​​​

  • Elections, voting and decision-making.

  • Financial management and accountability

  • Dispute resolution and member conduct.

  • The protection of the Club's assets and community purpose.


DEFINING OUR CLUB - TODAY, AND FOR THE FUTURE

The Constitution reflects Ponsonby Rugby Club as it operates today: a proud, inclusive and community-focused rugby club built on more than 150 years of history.

It provides clear and accountable framework for the Club's governance while protecting the values, heritage and purpose entrusted to us by generations of Ponies. It also ensures future members and leaders have a strong foundation form which to guide, protect and grow the Club for generations to come.
